Kennedy Space Center’s Planning and Development Office is seeking a highly-motivated, professionally-experienced graduate student enrolled in a degree program at an accredited university to work on a special project during the summer of 2012. The project is to provide support to the KSC Master Planner in the development of the Center’s Master Land Use Plan as KSC transforms into a multi-user space launch complex supporting both government and commercial space transportation systems and users. Specific duties will include preparing center mapping of existing conditions through use of GIS, and performance of various research and data collection tasks to assist in the development of the future concept and master land use/facilities plan. The student will work directly with the KSC Master Planner and other planning staff. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and be available to work on site at KSC full time throughout the summer prior to resuming their studies in the fall. Candidates with prior professional planning experience are preferred. Assigned tasks and deliverables to support the plan will be defined upon selection in consideration of the student’s capabilities, interests, and the Master Planner’s needs, and are expected to be completed during the student’s time in residence at KSC. Graduate students enrolled in degree programs for urban and regional planning, transportation planning, economic development or other closely related disciplines, are encouraged to apply for this opportunity, enabled as a special project of the Florida Space Grant in cooperation with Kennedy Space Center.
