2020 Florida Engineering Education Conference (FEEC)

The Florida Engineering Education Conference (FEEC) has been hosted by the College of Engineering and Computer Sciences (CECS) at the University of Central Florida since its beginnings in 2005. The 2020 conference follows on from the success of all previous FEEC events, and continues to adhere to the original goals of the program: (1) to highlight the importance of articulating pre-college STEM education with the “day to day” workforce applications; (2) to showcase both formal and informal STEM education models or programs; (3) and to serve as an information hub for educators, administrators, and industry partners alike. We hope that these three goals will make an impact in the pedagogy of STEM curricula. The 15th annual FEEC will be held at the UCF Student Union on March 6, 2020. The 2020 FEEC will remain a single day event with the agenda addressing topics in STEM education. Furthermore, the event is open statewide to K-12 STEM teachers, administrators, practicing professionals, and other (informal) educators who are interested in attending. FSGC is providing $2000 to partially support this project.

2019 Florida Engineering Education Conference (FEEC)

The Florida Engineering Education Conference (FEEC) has been hosted by the College of Engineering and Computer Sciences (CECS) at the University of Central Florida since its beginnings in 2005. In 2013, the event was transitioned to the Center for Initiatives in STEM (iSTEM), a collaborative effort between the Colleges of Education and Human Performance, Engineering and Computer Science, and Sciences focused on coordinating STEM initiatives across the university and surrounding community. An event that has been described as unique in the state of Florida, the FEEC strives in bridging the engineering workforce and the academic sector, through a series of workshops, hands on activities, and networking sessions. In 2014, the topic was broadened beyond the typical engineering disciplines to address a more comprehensive STEM agenda. 2017 Florida Engineering Education Conference (FEEC)

The Florida Engineering Education Conference (FEEC) has been hosted by the College of Engineering and Computer Sciences at the University of Central Florida since its beginnings in 2005. An event that has been described as unique in the state of Florida, the FEEC strives to bridge the engineering workforce and the academic sector through a series of workshops, hands-on activities, and networking sessions. In 2014, the topic was broadened beyond the typical engineering disciplines to address a more comprehensive STEM agenda. The Center for Initiatives in STEM, in conjunction with our industry partners (Harris Corporation, Florida Engineering Foundation, Florida Space Grant Consortium, and others), is planning to host the 2017 FEEC at the UCF Student Union on March 3, 2017. We expect about 100 teachers to attend the conference. Activities for the day will include, Keynote speakers representing the education sector and STEM professional organizations and industries, an industry panel to include senior STEM administrators from corporate agencies to discuss the importance of STEM to the future workforce, and a series of concurrent interactive and hands-on workshops.

2014 Florida Engineering Education Conference (FEEC)

For the past seven years, the University of Central Florida via its College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) has hosted the Florida Engineering Education Conference (FEEC). This event is one of the only “engineering education” conferences of its kind in Florida. Working with the conference partners, the goals continue to be to highlight the importance of pre-college engineering education in Florida, to showcase successful formal and informal pre-college engineering education programs and share the information with STEM educators and administrators. The conference also provides a venue for the conference partners (comprised of industry, government and professional organizations) to present and showcase what they are doing in the field of engineering. This enables them to link engineering relevance to formal and informal STEM curricula.

The 2014 conference, was held on April 25, 2014  as  a single day event with the agenda addressing “Biomedical and Bio-engineering education”. There were three panel presentations and three workshops in the afternoon. The panel presentations  included:

  • Session One: Engineering Education: An overview from Industry Partners regarding the importance of STEM to the Future Workforce
  • Session Two: Integrating medical and health science and engineering into the K12 classroom: An elementary, middle and high school perspective.
  • Session Three: Informal science and engineering programs offered by Industry Partners and community organizations

The 2014 FEEC keynote speakers included the 2013-14 FES President, Glenn Forrest and his co-presenter will be Ken Church, President and CEO nScrypt, a locally based engineering company. The 2014 conference partners  include the Florida Engineering Foundation, Harris Corporation, the Florida Space Grant Consortium, and the Central Florida STEM Education Council.

2013 Florida Engineering Education Conference

The University of Central Florida’s College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS), hosted the Eighth Annual Florida Engineering Education Conference (FEEC) on April 26 , 2013 at the UCF’s FAIRWINDS Alumni Center. The 2013 conference was a single day event with the agenda addressing “DoD engineering education”. There were three panel presentations and three workshops in the afternoon. The panel presentations will included:

• Session One: DoD Engineering Education: An overview from the Services and Contractors regarding the importance of STEM to the Future Workforce

• Session Two: Integrating DoD science and engineering into the K12 classroom: An elementary, middle and high school perspective.

• Session Three: Informal DoD science and engineering programs offered by the Services, contractors and community organizations

The 2013 FEEC keynote speakers included the 2012-13 FES President, Angelina Fairchild and her co-presenter will be the Commanding Officer for the Navy Air Warfare Center in Orlando, Captain Steve Nakagawa. The 2013 conference partners include the Florida Engineering Foundation, Harris Corporation, the Florida Space Grant Consortium, Lockheed Martin, the Boeing Company, the Central Florida STEM Education Council and the Florida Department of Education. There were 170  registrants for this conference.

2012 Florida Engineering Education Conference

The University of Central Florida’s College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS), hosted the Seventh Annual Florida Engineering Education Conference (FEEC) on April 27, 2012 at the UCF’s FAIRWINDS Alumni Center. Conference Partners included Florida Engineering Foundation, Harris Corporation, Lockheed Martin, Florida Space Grant Consortium, the Central Florida STEM Education Council and the Bureau of Curriculum and Instruction at the Florida Department of Education. This informative program provided opportunities for attendees to network and establish new engineering education contacts. There was a special emphasis this year on environmental education program with an engineering focus. There were 158 registrants for this conference and 121 actually attended the conference.

 Third Annual Florida Engineering Education Conference (FEEC)

UCF-CECS’ continued goal is to highlight the importance of pre-college engineering education in Florida, to showcase successful formal and informal pre-college engineering education programs and share the information with STEM educators and administrators. This is accomplished via a one-day event to be hosted at our Student Union this summer. The format for this year’s conference will be similar to last year based on feedback per the evaluations. A morning brunch and afternoon lunch are included. The morning will consist of three panel presentations and afternoon will include workshops. The panel presentations will include:

  • Session One An Engineer’s Retrospective: What I wish I learned and/or did while in school.  (Four engineers from major engineering organizations will be featured presenters.)
  • Session Two Integrating engineering into the K12 classroom: An elementary, middle and high school perspective (Four teachers that have integrated engineering programs into their curricula will be presenting what they have accomplished and learned from their experiences.)
  • Session Three Industry – Professional Engineering Organization sponsored pre-college engineering education programs (Four engineers/educators that have hosted informal engineering programs will be presenting what they have accomplished and learned from their experiences.)
  • Workshops  Four afternoon workshops are currently panned

NASA-KSC will be providing a speaker for one of the panels and for one of the four workshops. FSGC will join the Florida Engineering Foundation, Harris Corporation and SWE in providing funding.
